Off the Grid Exhibition

On Friday the 7th of June, we hosted our end of year show which was an exhibition of all our best work. Our exhibition was held in a defunct shop which group A and group B were asked to renovate and redecorate.

The show started at 5.30pm on Friday at the college looking through work done by the level 1&2 graphics students, then at around 6.15pm we moved down the shop at Long market to view the level 3 graphic design students work. In the shop there was one piece of work from each student in group A and B on the wall printed to A1 and a small description written by each student showing what they have learned since they started the course.

Upon arrival there were free appetisers and drinks for both students and their families/friends while they viewed all the different work within the exhibition. Each student on the course was given an allocated job for the show and asked to forefill that roll during the exhibition. My allocated job was Security with Mike Waller. We were asked to make sure that the whole show ran smoothly and welcomed all the guests upon their entry to the exhibition.

In my opinion the exhibition went very well, everyone made sure they completed their rolls to their full potential and all the guests seemed very happy during the show. Towards the end of the show both my tutors made a speech about the students on the course and the exhibition.

End of Year Show at the College

After we did our week long Off the Grid exhibition at the shop, we moved the exhibition back to the college. We did the same method of presenting our work as we did in the shop. We set up wooden panels that we could mount our work on. We did this by standing up the wooden panels upright and connecting them together using small vice like devises. Once this was done we stuck all the work that was going up for the show onto the boards.

Also down at the show, there are Mac computers that are presenting 3 of each individual students three favourite pieces of work. There is also a page on the computers which has a small paragraph written by each student, saying what they have learned from the course and what they will take away from the course.

Preparing End of Year show

For our end of year show, the college had hired a defunct old shop that we could hold an exhibition in. The exhibition was there for a week and students had to take it in turns looking after the shop and welcoming members of the public. Our exhibition was called Off the Grid. As our exhibition we being held at a defunct shop we had to redecorate it. So on each college day leading up the show a handful of students were picked each day to renovate and redecorate the shop. The redecorating included painting the walls, filling holes in the walls and cleaning windows. We painted the walls all white so that students work would stand up on the walls.

Once we had redecorated the exhibition, we had to set up the wooden panels within the room to put our work on. To construct these panels we had to stand them upright and connect 3 panels together using small vice like devises so they didn't fall apart and so they could stand up. We arranged these panels in a particular way so that people could walk around the exhibition and look at all the students work. Each student had one piece of work in the show that they considered to be their best piece throughout the whole course so I chose my Smirnoff poster.
